I love shooting wide open, and I love it even more when I get glorious circles of light, so I was excited about this month’s challenge! But then Emily asked if we could scrapbook this weekend, and since she is starting high school (high school!!!!) in a few days, I was feeling nostalgic so it sounded like a great idea to me, too! When she was tiny, I had dreams of presenting her with all these gorgeous scrapbooks filled with beautiful images of her childhood and eloquent words that would serve as a testament of my complete and utter adoration of her. And I started off great, too! But then life got in the way… So when I picked it up again this weekend, I realized I have only chronicled her life up until kindergarten! But together we leafed through all of those pages up until 5, and I was reminded once again how precious and short and crazy-fast life is. So in honor of my current nostalgic mood, for today’s post, I decided to go back to when she was littler, when I was much more newly learning about photography, and the first really good bokeh shot I ever got on purpose. This was from 2009, when she was playing in the sprinklers in the backyard and the droplets were catching the light so beautifully that I just had to get out the camera to try to capture it:
Every once in a while these memories come flooding back, and that has especially been true this week, so looking at these old photos just makes my heart happy! Yesterday she got her new schedule (and I think it will be a great one—she got all the classes she was hoping for), and her very first locker, and just watching her standing in the hallway of that big school learning to use her padlock—well, I guess my baby isn’t so much my baby any more. And though I am absolutely over the moon for her, and for this amazing new adventure in her life, and I am SOOOOOO proud of her, well, there’s just a little bit of sadness that creeps in, too. It is all happening way too fast for her poor Mama…
As always, please continue on in our little circle to see what beautiful work Krista came up with this month!!
Wow, that i awesome!! High School? I cannot believe it. I don’t think I could get droplets of water to do that if I tried. That is so cool and looks amazing!
This is beautiful! I love it!
Awww, Em looks so little here! Love, love, love that bokeh from the water—the colors, the whole thing!
That is the most gorgeous bokeh I have ever seen! Aww, Emily does look so little here:).
