I am so excited about the themes we all decided on with our blog circle for this year, because once again I will have to step a bit out of my box to create each month’s image, and that is a wonderful thing! My portraits are normally all about light and joy, but to me the soulful theme called for something a little different, a little more dramatic. I have been studying a master photographer this month as a part of a class I am taking (I will post about that when class is over, but suffice it to say, it’s been fantastic!), and I chose to study Edward Steichen. I was looking for someone who created work with a vintage and cinematic quality to it because I’m so drawn to those gorgeous old images of people like Audrey Hepburn, and his work fit the bill. So this image was taken with him in mind:
It’s much darker than what I normally do, and I doubt I will add it to my portfolio, but still it’s fun to stretch yourself and try new things!
As always, please continue on in our little circle to see what Amber came up with this month!
[…] Please remember to follow this circle around and see the other interpretations for soulful portraiture! Next up is a lovely lady and a good friend named Jessica from Jessica Holden Photography. […]
You blow me away EVERY time! So so beautiful and creative.
Oh, this is beautiful! Totally different for you and I love it!
I was so psyched to see this image when it popped up on my computer!!! Love that you went a totally different direction than your normal style and look at what amazing art you created! WOW! It could be on the cover of a book or movie. So. freaking. cool.
and don’t think we didn’t notice how well positioned the lace is…..greatness!
This is great! I love how you are incorporating the work of another into your own. Can’t wait to hear about the class you are taking. Even the enlarged pupils add to the story in this image. Nice work Jessica!
What a strong portrait Jessica! It really draws you in to her eyes! It is a great portrait for soulful and I am looking forward to hearing more about your workshop! I love watching your work as you always push yourself and your boundaries and I really admire that!
