Back in 2010, I rented the original version of the 24-70 along with a 5D Mark II, and that lens left me unimpressed (it was too heavy for my hands, it seemed to hunt for focus, and the images just weren’t terribly sharp even when I compared them to images from my non-L 18-55 images […]

This month was an exercise I was really excited about, but then I just couldn’t seem to make it happen! I had these grand visions of finding something truly ugly but that was somehow lit with gorgeous light. But everything I considered came up woefully short, until I realized that what I was judging my […]

Earlier this month, Tom and I volunteered to chaperone the Middle School Band/Choir trip to Anaheim/Disneyland for their Heritage Festival competition. And we were so glad we did—I am not sure who had more fun, the kids or us! When we started out it was still dark—we had to be to school by 5:15 am. […]

I was at Trader Joe’s the other day, and they had peonies, so I couldn’t resist. They are among my favorite flowers, though I can’t seem to grown them in my yard to save my life. So instead, I buy them from the store when I can, and then take pictures of them!

LOVE these photos!! Saw them on Pinterest! What lens and camera setting?? So clean looking 🙂 how did you edit..ReplyCancel

    • Jessica Holden Photography - June 11, 2014 - 7:34 pm

Hi Brooke! Thank you! They were all (except the lensbaby one) taken with the 100L at f/2.8, with a shutterspeed of 1/50. And the edit on these was minimal as I loved the images straight out of camera (the light was pretty in the dining room at the time, and the greens of the back yard showed up nicely). I reduced the contrast a bit by brightening the shadows and dimming the highlights, and I reduced the clarity a bit to add some softness. I did it all in Lightroom.ReplyCancel

My lensbaby has been on my camera a lot this month, including for my portraits blog circle where Emily and I played with a little green mask to capture sunflare and backlighting, and then again on my not-so-little girl’s 14th birthday. But one day this month my friend and I sneaked off to Capitola and […]

Somehow my family little family made Mother’s Day extra special this year! Emily woke up early (“-ish”—we are not morning people) and made a favorite recipe from my Mom: “Paris Puffins”—these little muffins that are rolled in melted butter and cinnamon sugar right when they come out of the oven. And while she was making […]
