OK, so here is my final blog post on my four-week class with CM’s Sarah Wilkerson on Advanced Compostion and Creativity. (Week One is blogged here, Week Two here, and Week Three here.) This week we weren’t necessarily shooting anything new (though we could if we wanted to); instead we learned how to edit an […]

Gorgeous! I love the fishbowl, how many times did my daughter do the same thing? At least a million! The swing picture is fantastic, I STILL remember that soaring feeling from swingtime at recess many moons later, love it!ReplyCancel
This year we started a new tradition that seems to be all the rage these days–the Elf on a Shelf. The idea is that the Elf (Emily named ours Holly) watches the children in a household during the day, and then she reports back each night to Santa on whether each child was naughty or […]

For part three in my little series about the CM Workshop (part one is here, and part two here), we worked on both seeing and using existing light, and also manipulating light to our advantage. This week really emphasized the limitations of my camera as it does NOT do well in low light. The highest […]
Just a few months ago I got to photograph this little guy as my first newborn shoot. It was fun to see him again! His older brother is just adorable, and he is obviously going to be just as funny and sweet. I am so glad I got to meet up with them again for […]
This is the second year I’ve gotten the pleasure of capturing Christmas card photos for this gorgeous family. And what’s extra special for me is that I have been friends with the mom since she was Emily’s second grade teacher, so I am getting to watch these two grow up! I feel so honored to […]
This year we spent Thanksgiving in Oregon at Grammie and Grampa’s house. It was beautiful, relaxing, and fun, just like it always is! We brought Rory on the 432-mile drive with us, and she ended up being a fantastic little traveler! She mostly hung out quietly in her cage, quacking (that’s the closest word we […]

Such a cool way to share a passion and bond! I am totally inspired to teach my daughter a little about photography. And the overexposed building shot? I think it is my favorite. It is just perfect in B&W. Emily, I hope you come back to visit often. I can’t wait to see some more of what’s catching your eye.ReplyCancel

Emily, you did such a fantastic job on these pictures! I think black and white is a good choice for the picture you overexposed. It looks pretty cool the way you processed it, almost like a pencil sketch of the building. I’m impressed with your photography and photoshop skills. Looks like you had a great day with your mom and other CMs. Thanks for sharing!ReplyCancel

Hi Emily! Wow sounds like you had a wonderful day with your mom. I grew up in this same area, so your photos have really made me homesick! It is so wonderful that you and your mom are able to share such a wonderful hobby. All of your photos are beautiful. I especially love the gorgeous blue skies over the Bay Bridge and your overexposed shot, which looks quite lovely and artistic the way you’ve processed it in black and white. Great job Emily!ReplyCancel

Part two in my blog series about the CM workshop I am taking this month (part one is here). This week we’ve been working on going beyond the more simplistic rule of thirds when composing our shots.
