I am taking a brilliant CM workshop that began last week, and we were working on trying to see one subject compositionally in different ways. I shot some with Emily, of course, but also worked on some still-lifes because, well, they stay still so I can really examine the composition from various angles. First I […]

Question, r u able to attach your 50 when using it backwards or just hold it? I’ve tried but I’m definitely needing a third hand with the manual focus! Great shots!ReplyCancel
I have a reverse-ring attachment, but I find myself mostly holding it instead of using the reverse ring. I find that the 50 sits nicely inside the body so it doesn’t wiggle around or anything. I prefer to open up the aperture to between 5 and 8 to give myself a bit more wiggle room (by selecting the ap I want with the dial while the lens is screwed on correctly and then unscrewing the lens from the body WHILE pressing the ap preview button), and then I focus by moving my body physically closer and further from the subject. It’s cumbersome, but it works!ReplyCancel

Since Emily was very small, she has been begging me to make her Halloween costumes. And of course this year was no different! This year she wanted to be a devil, but a girly one. So we bought a pattern and some fabric… And I sewed (notice the champagne? I find that very helpful as […]
I wish I was creative and could sew. Great job. I love her outfit.ReplyCancel

Whoa, you do REAL sewing–with a pattern and all! It would require a LOT more than a champagne flute for me to conquer that skill! Great job! And stunning pumpkins, as always!ReplyCancel
omg. such talent in your family! that mask/eye pic….ahhhhhmazing. great job on the costume!ReplyCancel

WOw, Jessica! I don’t know what is more impressive, your handmade costume, your pictures or your husbands pumpkin! I’m impressed! Love the two shots of M with the mask! Tell M, Valeria says hello! She’s standing right next to me looking at the pictures 🙂ReplyCancel
Um WOW! First of all, I’m so impressed with your sewing skills! Great job on the costume! Love the color shot of her in the mask cropped halfway through the face… very artistic. And your husband! Holy cow, that is a gorgeous carving… it’s art!ReplyCancel
First…I am super jealous of your sewing skills. And she is a beautiful devil!
Second…My parents have a green cheek conure named Sammy who is going on 14….he looks just like your guy! They are such fun birds. I can’t wait to see what pictures you get of him!ReplyCancel
Oh wow…. I’m so impressed that you made her costume!! Gorgeous job on that. LOVE the shots of her eye in the mask …. especially the B&W one…. gorgeous!ReplyCancel
We were invited to a wedding last weekend of Tom’s friend Alain and his gorgeous bride, Barbara. We decided to tack on an extra “Family Day,” just to be together. We don’t do that often enough! We had a wonderful time, even Emily, despite the fact that she got to spend the day after the […]
It looks like you had a wonderful time. Beautiful pictures as always! I am glad you got a picture of the three of you together. I love the one of Emily in her sun glasses!ReplyCancel
omg! what a beautiful family… i love your pictures. i hope she keeps the picture of her and her daddy dancing forever (wish i had one of me and my dad). beautiful work, excited to keep up with you 🙂ReplyCancel
Went on a mini-getaway day with a friend to Capitola earlier this week, where we went on a long walk and had brunch. Great friend, good food, a little exercise, and a lot of pictures–it doesn’t get much better than that!
For the last several weeks and until the end of November, I have a bunch of different things I am working on with my photography. Recently I have been working with my friend Rachel on going through the Nichole V Workshop in a Box, and I am also doing a mini-mentorship with Melissa Koehler, who […]
Oh Jessica! These are so beautiful… sexy even! Well done! You have such an eye for composition.ReplyCancel

I love the complementary colors. I personally don’t know a thing about photography but from an untrained eye, may I say that you are excelling in your demonstration of technique! Beautiful job!ReplyCancel
Emily and I spent last Saturday doing the first annual (we hope!) ClickinMoms ClickinWalk! Women all over the world were meeting and talking a photo walk together and getting to know each other. We had a wonderful time and are already looking forward to next year! This was the view from where we parked. Emily and […]
Looks like a fun time! I love how your daughter was able to take part in the walk with you. Such a great memory for the two of you. Gorgeous shots!ReplyCancel

Jessica (and Emily, too, of course,) The pictures are beautiful as usual. I tried to choose a favorite, but couldn’t. I miss both of you, so it helps to see pictures of you, and I also love the scenery and flowers etc.ReplyCancel
These are incredible! Your daughter looks like she had so much fun right along with you! I absolutely love the Blue Angels behind the bridge and your last shot with the sun burst. Incredible!ReplyCancel
It looks like you guys had a perfect day! Great photos. Love the Blue Angels/bridge shot among several here! It’s lovely to see you and your daughter’s bond in photos!ReplyCancel
These are all so amazing, Jessica! Such great captures of the Blue Angels … I’ve only been to San Francisco once, but totally fell in love with the town. And it was a trip with just my mom, so I love that you and Em had such a fun time together! Thank you for sharing this town’s beauty!ReplyCancel
Ah Jessica looks like you had a great time and took some fabulous shots, especially that hand holding one. You got much better weather than our Prague photowalk!ReplyCancel
Looks like you had a wonderful day! I really like the last one! So lucky to have your daughter with you. She is such a sweetheart. 🙂ReplyCancel

Our new little turquoise conure is such a little thing, but she’s wormed her way into our hearts in a BIG way! She is playful and FULL of personality, mostly good, but she can be fiesty and moody, too. I’ve had cats and dogs pretty much continuously throughout my life, but a bird is a […]
Oh my gosh, Rory is just about the cutest thing I’ve ever seen! My kids loved the video. The photos are adorable, I wish I could meet this sweet little creature in person!ReplyCancel
I potty trained her–I was very impressed that she learned so quickly, and on only her SECOND day with us, and I decided it was clearly because she’s brilliant. However, she has steadfastly refused to learn ANY other tricks since then! But that’s OK–if that’s the only thing she learns for her entire life, I will be grateful that that’s her one trick–LOL!ReplyCancel
Oh my goodness…adorable!! I’ve never really even considered having a bird as a pet but she really makes me think! Beautiful images of her – I love the little series with her buttons.ReplyCancel
Wow! When I saw the first photo I thought you’d taken these at the zoo and then I realised she is now yours! She is so cute and I love photo 3 for the emotion and the colours – now did you plan to choose a bird of that colour to complement Em’s lovely eye colour 😉 Rebecca xReplyCancel
Rory is just the most gorgeous bird. I was just talking to my daughter yesterday about getting a budgie but now I’m thinking a conure is worth some serious investigation. I had no idea they could be so affectionate!ReplyCancel
She is beautiful! I had no idea you could potty train a bird – that makes them a whole lot more appealing as a potential pet!!! The first shot is lovely!ReplyCancel
Here’s the shoot Emily and I did with Bree from ClickinMoms! We traded raw files, so I played around with these, mostly using the new CM Film Art presets for Lightroom. Normally I am not a big preset user as I tend to prefer doing my more artistic editing in Photoshop, but man, I do LOVE […]
Hey Jessica! I just love these pictures! You will forever CHERISH these!! Bree did a wonderful job, of course she had good subjects to work with. The presets look great, I just purchased them today.ReplyCancel
What a gorgeous pair you are! What a treasure to have these images. I adore seeing your smiling faces but that last one just gets me too. Like we’re peeking in at a private moment.ReplyCancel
Oh my! These are stunning! What a treasure to have these photos and I adore the luminescent feel to the processing. Gorgeous! You and Em are so pretty!!!ReplyCancel
The word that comes to mind looking at these is angelic!! You both look stunning, and I agree–the skin tones came out extra special with your editing. Your blog is the best!ReplyCancel
Ah so that’s where Emily gets her good looks from! Lovely photos Jessica, Bree did a great job but then she did have some stunning subjects to work with. xReplyCancel
