Last year, a HUGE highlight of my summer was the baby hummingbirds that I discovered in a nest just a couple of feet outside my dining room window: But I only noticed them after they were this big, and we were on vacation when they learned to fly and they were gone by the time […]
Did you have to climb the tree to get the shot? LOL. I think it’s great you were able to get mama bird on the nest. I Also like your processing.ReplyCancel
Christy, I had to stand on a chair to get high enough to see inside her nest, but it was only about 2 feet from the window, so she was REALLY close, which made it SO exciting!ReplyCancel
*Sniff sniff* I need a tissue! I wonder what happened? You must have been beside yourself when you discovered this. I hope she comes back, if she survived the attack. The photos are gorgeous and I was so excited to see her babies. I’m so sorry, sweetie!ReplyCancel
Oh, I was getting excited to see humming birds in action π Sigh, Mother Nature! But, AWESOME job on capturing the nest, eggs and mama! Fun to see a hummingbird sitting still.ReplyCancel
Aww..that is such a sad little story. Poor mama hummingbird. π Beautiful shots.ReplyCancel

I was also going to ask how you got those photos! Very nice. I love the ones with the eggs. We had a bird nest last year – she actually made one on the ledge of our brick column just under the roof! We were very careful not to disturb them. It was a great little lesson for my son!ReplyCancel
These are just…wow!!! Beautiful. I am sorry…I teared up too, I hope they will be back! π I would leave out some nesting stuff for them! You can buy some raw wool and hang it in your yard, stuff like that, to encourage them. π Glad you got it documented!ReplyCancel
On Friday I got to play photographer with my friend’s brand new nephew; he was only seven days old! He was my very first real newborn shoot, if you don’t count Emily (and in fact, the pathetic newborn shots I took of her are a HUGE reason I became so passionate about photography–I have nothing […]
Jessica, what beautiful images you captured! I would have NEVER guessed this was your first time photographing a newborn! And I have to say, I love the image of big brother too!ReplyCancel
Wow Jessica, your first newborn? You did great!! Hmm…which one is my favorite? Maybe the last one and number 5. I bet the mom is so happy with these πReplyCancel
[…] a few months ago I got to photograph this little guy as my first newborn shoot. It was fun to see him again! His older brother is just adorable, and he is obviously going to be […]ReplyCancel
[…] am a pretty inexperienced newborn photographer (only having done it twice before, with singletons, here and here), but these two (and their wonderful parents!) made it as easy on me as they could! I […]ReplyCancel
I’m taking a photography workshop, and my last assignment was to make a storyboard of a particular stanza from a Dr. Seuss book. We shopped and we shopped for all the right stuff, and then came home and gave it a whirl. We might have gone a tad more on the literal side than was […]
At the last minuteΒ we ALMOST got to spend Mother’s Day with my mom (Grammie, to Emily!) and sister, but our plans changed in the end when my poor sister ended up sick for her Mother’s Day… So we went back to our original plan of spending the day at Tom’s and my alma mater (and […]
What a beautiful location. Its fun to see that your daughter isn’t too grown up yet. Its so hard to our children get older! She is beautiful. I love the images of her getting her face painted. Yay, for getting out from behind the camera. I’m sure your daughter, as well as you, will cherish these images as she gets older!ReplyCancel

Davis looks really pretty (I’ve never been). I’d like to say you’re never too old for face painting, but I guess you do grow out of it, huh? Glad your Mother’s Day was wonderful, after all!ReplyCancel
Emily is such a beautiful young woman! I love that she still likes getting her face painted, it matches her spirit. All of the photos are wonderful and it’s so nice seeing you in a couple of them too. Well done!ReplyCancel
We don’t go the traditional birthday party route all that often, but at Christmas my friend Laura and I found these adorable pink and green candy ornaments, and a perfect-for-Emily party was born! Happy green and warm pink have been Emily’s and my favorite colors for what seems like forever, so this was the ideal […]
I imagine my neighbors, had they been peering out their back window and through our broken fence (which has since been fixed–HUGE sigh of relief from yours truly), would think I have lost it just a little bit if they saw me the other evening. I was laying on the ground with my camera, spraying […]
…We went VERY QUICKLY from this: …to this: …and it was the happiest day of my life! For all too short a timeΒ weΒ had this: Β NowΒ we have this: And sometimes this: And always this: I love you, my darling Emily! You are an amazing girl, and you make my heart sing every day… I […]
These bushes have been in my backyard since before we moved in nearly 15 years ago, and they are just thriving! They are deciduous, so they look like ugly sticks in the wintertime, but they make me fall in love with them all over again every spring when they bloom profusely with these delicate, sweet-smelling […]
I don’t know, but I want some in my yard! Love these!ReplyCancel

You can download an app for your iPhone that will give you a definition of anything you photograph! A friend of mine told me about this, so I can’t say I’ve tried it, but she has done this with plants.ReplyCancel
These are simply gorgeous. Love the sun flare in the first one. And the contrast with the white against the soft blue sky in the second, well done πReplyCancel
Don’t know what they are either, but have to agree that your photos are stunning! Love the sunburst capture in the first one and the color in the second. Gorgeous!ReplyCancel
