This month our assignment was to do a portrait in profile. I couldn’t think of a “logical” way to do that, where the image would make sense, so I decided to kind of go in a more “lifestyle” direction with it. And here’s what I got: images of my girl doing one of her favorite […]
Jessica, anything you do is magic! I understand going through a “slump” but I am glad you see a light at the end of the tunnel. You are a great talent! I love your processing in these. They are so soft and beautiful.ReplyCancel
I feel so badly to have neglected my blog for so long—life just got ahead of me over the last half of the summer! But there is one more very important event that desperately deserves to be posted, and that is my wonderful in-laws’ 50th anniversary party in Minnesota. Marriage is at once beautifully rewarding […]
[…] my poor blog has been so ignored in the past month… I shall blame it on my “Unhappy Triad” surgery—it really threw me for a loop for pretty much the entire month of October. But I was missing […]ReplyCancel
I can’t even remember specifically when I last walked across the bridge, and it had been at least 25 years for Tom; Emily has never done it. So when she put it on her Summer Fun list, it seemed perfect! (I made myself use only the 24-70/2.8 II lens the whole time, since I had […]
Two summers ago, we went on Emily’s first ever camping trip, with my sister. We had an absolutely fantastic time, so when she asked if we wanted to go again this summer, we jumped at the chance! She is so good at camping. She knows exactly what to pack to make it decadent (as decadent […]
I am not great with storytelling images, and I am afraid I may not quite have achieved the intended purpose with these, because in retrospect they really are more like our Editorial assignment than anything else. But still, the trip was such fun (minus and incident at the very end—sigh…), and I am so glad […]
So much fun to see these!! Glad you all had a great time (minus the wave/camera incident… that’s too bad!!)! I have to admit, though, that I was really hoping to see a pic of you girls together! 😉ReplyCancel

This week I rented a new lens, the Canon 70-200 f/2.8 (though not the IS version–and I admit I am regretting that decision already, though even this one is pretty darned fabulous!), so to test it out, and to let Emily off the hook, and I did a portrait of flowers—does that count for our […]
As always Jessica, those are so lovely! I have borrowed the 4.0 IS version of that lens from a friend and I have longed to have my own every since! Love the colors. It’s so soft and dreamy!ReplyCancel
The colors here are simply perfect! Love the look of the 70-200 lens & I hope you like the IS version better!ReplyCancel

Hi Jessica
Have you edited your background or not.
I love the softness of these photos and and the light. Any tips for a newbie please? 🙂
Janelle. ♡ReplyCancel
It’s all about the lens and having a wide open aperture! The background wasn’t edited at all. Opening your aperture (in this case, to 2.8) creates a lovely softness if your subject is far enough away from the background. <3ReplyCancel
It had been on my photography bucket list for a long, long time: Get a good shot of fireworks, one with those beautifully clean, lovely trails of light cascading down in the darkness. I was fascinated, but my first few tries were definitely flops! So I decided to write up a post to help others […]
This month I played just with the Sweet 35 in the back yard. The last of the Trader Joe’s peonies were blooming so perfectly that I couldn’t resist shooting just one in my daughter’s hands… Please join me in browsing our little circle to the always lovely work of Sarah!
